Luminess Airbrush: How does Luminess Air Work?
Online ads for the Luminess airbrush use the phrase “as seen on TV”. I have to admit, I’ve never seen it on TV: However, I did come across it recently, and I was intrigued enough to check it out further.
How Does it Work?
Luminess airbrush system works on exactly the same principle as an artist’s airbrush – the biggest difference being that it’s small, not under high-pressure, and easy to grip. The flow is easy to control simply by the degree to which you slide the control button backwards with your index finger.
The water-based makeup comes in little bottles. You drip a few drops of makeup into the extra-wide little funnel on top, turn it on, and start spraying your face in small, outward circles.
Is it as Easy As it Looks?
It’s easy as pie, compared to the learning curve I endured when getting the hang of mineral-based makeup (which I like to wear if I’ll be out for a long time, or in hot weather). And you can dry your face a little and “set” the makeup with just the air setting.
Luminess Airbrush System: Pros
The most spectacular result of using a Luminess airbrush to apply your makeup? You’ll end up with gently-blended and shaded flawless skin – and you’ll look as if a top, professional Hollywood makeup artist applied it – to those who even realize you’re wearing makeup.
Here are some of its benefits:
- Economical – Because you are using only drops per application, a bottle goes a long way!
- Fabulous for older skin – One of the biggest problems with developing wrinkles is the way makeup seems to make your skin looks harsh, as it collects in creases. I would say that the biggest advantage of Luminess lies in how much it eliminates this problem on older skin.
- Gentle – The pure, water-based make up feels wonderful and seems to be composed of non-irritating, high quality ingredients. (Unlike some “water-based” airbrush makeup, it contains no polymers).
- Allows you to custom-blend – You can add a drop of shimmer or bronzer to your foundation; or if a shade isn’t perfect, a drop or two of darker or lighter color. You can mix the most subtle tones – and you’ll never get harsh edges: Everything blends flawlessly!
Luminess Airbrush System: Cons
Like anything else on the planet, Luminess Air does have a couple of drawbacks. Here they are:
- It’s not cheap – Expect to pay close to the $200 mark for the kit – though I’ve seen it under $170.00… but when you consider that most other brands are more expensive, and a professional artist’s airbrush usually costs double that, it put things into perspective. And it is a one-time purchase: All you have to replace in future are the bottles of your favorite (long-lasting) Luminess makeup.
- The foundation will break down if you sweat or exert yourself – Remember, this makeup is purely water-based. This means it will break down quickly if you begin to sweat. I usually use manually-applied mineral makeup in very hot weather or for sports, but prefer airbrushing water based makeup on if I know I’m not going to exert myself much, or want an absolutely flawless look for a social occasion.
The Verdict…
If you want to just slap a foundation on and go all day from the gym, to the office, to dinner, to an evening out with friends, water-based makeups are not your best solution.
However, if you need your skin to look absolutely, exquisitely flawless for social occasions, business meetings or any sort of on-camera appearances, the Luminess Air airbrush makeup system is an absolute essential!
